Pre-program and/or Graduate Conservation Internship (2-4 positions)
Art Conservation de Rigueur et Anoxia Abatement Solutions
Fall 2015 -  Spring 2016

Flexible start dates: Internships may begin any time from the
beginning of August through September, 2015.

Internship duration is 6-9  months, and potentially extended. 20 -
30 hours per week

Hands-on practicum in San Francisco private conservation practice
<URL:http://www.artconservationderigueur.com> specializing in
textiles, objects, decorative arts and some minor painting
treatments.

Extend your academic and practical experience through a supervised,
constructive and instructive environment, supportive to your future
professional development.

Projects may include:  European tapestry, needlepoint, Asian and
Oriental embroideries, costume, ethnographic weavings and objects,
works on paper and rare books, sculpture, Native American objects
Japanese painted silk screens, Indian Toran, Tibetan Thangka, silk
flags, oil paintings, among many others.

We will also be working on a major longterm and ongoing historic
drapery conservation project funded by the Nation Historic Trust for
the Filoli Estate.

Applied skills to be instructed:

    Hepa vacuuming
    Hand sewn linings and mounts
    Object cleaning
    CO2 anoxia
    ATP bioluminescence testing,
    Freezer treatments
    Pest management
    Environmental monitoring, research
    Condition reports
    Photodocumentation
    Object cataloging
    Material and fiber analysis
    Working with custom formulated non-aqueous gels, solvents and
        adhesives
    Archival materials
    Custom fabrication of housing and boxes

and much more.

Applicants must either be currently enrolled in a program leading to
a diploma or degree in a conservation or relevant museum collections
care field; have completed appropriate studies within the past three
years, or be considered "pre-program" continuing students pursuing a
graduate conservation program needing to accrue the required
800-1200+ hours of experience prior to applying--this is a great
place to accumulate some of those hundreds of requisite hours.

Previous internship experience in conservation and/or museum
collection care and handling is preferred.  Many of our prior
interns have gone on to wonderful successes in this highly
competitive and technically complex field.
