Conservator Hillsborough Castle 4 days a week Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built. Hillsborough Castle is a working Royal Residence, the base for the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and a great place for the public to visit. In early 2014 the operation of the Castle passed from the Northern Ireland Office to Historic Royal Palaces (HRP). It will continue to act as a residence but there will be considerable investment to increase public access, improve the visitor experience significantly and tell the stories of its fascinating history and glorious gardens. An essential part of this major development is the recruitment of a high calibre and highly professional team to transform Hillsborough Castle into a 'must see' destination. This is a really exciting time to join us, as the conservator will lead on the delivery of a programme of collection and interiors conservation care and protections, to project manage the contracting of local conservation specialists for the conservation treatment of objects, and collections management procedures for local control of the collection inventory. We are looking for a proactive and confident individual who is solution- and customer-focussed, with the ability to pragmatically prioritise risk and influence others in safeguarding our buildings and collections. In addition, you will be responsible for hands-on collection care and cleaning, environmental monitoring and analysis, pest control management, condition auditing and exhibition work. Both independently and as a strong team player, you will be motivated to achieve goals by working closely with your colleagues in a reactive environment. This position will be based at Hillsborough Castle; however there may be a requirement to visit our other sites from time to time. Additionally, hours of work may include evenings. A recognised conservation qualification and the ability to work at heights are essential. Historic Royal Palaces encourages PACR accreditation.
