Position at Hillsborough Castle

From: Jo Wilson <jo.wilson<-at->
Date: Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Conservator
Hillsborough Castle

4 days a week

Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after
the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the
Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. We help
everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped
society in some of the greatest palaces ever built. Hillsborough
Castle is a working Royal Residence, the base for the Secretary of
State for Northern Ireland and a great place for the public to
visit. In early 2014 the operation of the Castle passed from the
Northern Ireland Office to Historic Royal Palaces (HRP). It will
continue to act as a residence but there will be considerable
investment to increase public access, improve the visitor experience
significantly and tell the stories of its fascinating history and
glorious gardens. An essential part of this major development is
the recruitment of a high calibre and highly professional team to
transform Hillsborough Castle into a 'must see' destination.

This is a really exciting time to join us, as the conservator will
lead on the delivery of a programme of collection and interiors
conservation care and protections, to project manage the contracting
of local conservation specialists for the conservation treatment of
objects, and collections management procedures for local control of
the collection inventory. We are looking for a proactive and
confident individual who is solution- and customer-focussed, with
the ability to pragmatically prioritise risk and influence others in
safeguarding our buildings and collections. In addition, you will
be responsible for hands-on collection care and cleaning,
environmental monitoring and analysis, pest control management,
condition auditing and exhibition work. Both independently and as a
strong team player, you will be motivated to achieve goals by
working closely with your colleagues in a reactive environment.

This position will be based at Hillsborough Castle; however there
may be a requirement to visit our other sites from time to time.
Additionally, hours of work may include evenings. A recognised
conservation qualification and the ability to work at heights are
essential. Historic Royal Palaces encourages PACR accreditation.

Pay will be at the competitive market rate

Closing date: 19 April 2015
