Digital Imaging Research Fellowship Scientific National Gallery London Fixed Term Full-Time Salary: UKP28,777 - UKP36,057 Closing date:22 March 2015 Interview date:Week commencing 30 March 2015 Job ref:1228 The central role of this post, in the Scientific Department, is to undertake research and development work into the capture and production of digital images and image-based analytical data related to the technical examination and conservation of paintings. The role will have a particular emphasis on examining the use and practical application of hyper-spectral imaging over the range of 400-2500nm. This work will include the initial selection and acquisition of the appropriate cameras, lenses, spectrometers, etc. required for the hyper-spectral imaging of old master paintings, followed by their installation and set-up. The post holder will also play an integral role in the ongoing development and integration of this technique within the research activities of the National Gallery. An interest in issues related to the storage and dissemination of image-based analytical data is preferred. You must have a first degree in an appropriate scientific field and a post graduate degree in a relevant subject. In addition you must have experience in hyper-spectral imaging, spectroscopy, multi-spectral imaging, advanced digital image processing and/or colour science. You must also have strong practical computing experience, including programming within appropriate image processing, mathematical and/or spectroscopy based software packages. It is also desirable for you to have a strong knowledge of the materials of paintings.
