Subject: Workshop on decorative paint
Skenduli House: Decorative Paint Conservation Location: Gjirokastra, Albania Dates: May 17-30, 2015 Cost: US$2,300 Adventures in Preservation (AiP) is offering an opportunity for art conservation professionals, as well as students and other interested individuals, to contribute to conservation efforts in the World Heritage Site of Gjirokastra, Albania. The Ottoman-era Skenduli tower house, one of Gjirokastra's significant historic and cultural resources, has seen substantial work in recent years, and its decorative painting requires restoration next. Professional participants will be led by conservators Edlira Caushi and Jennifer O'Connell, as well as Albert Kasi, Director of Regional Directorate of Monuments of Gjirokastra. Students and other interested individuals will document decorative painting at the Kikono house, and will learn more about conservation through lectures and demonstrations. Per UNESCO, hands-on conservation work must be completed by qualified professionals, so those with expertise in paint conservation are highly encouraged to participate.
