Subject: Talk on framing the Turner Squares
"The Framing of the Turner Squares" Icon: Gilding and Decorative Surfaces Group Talk given by Tate Frames Conservation Technician Adrian Moore The Grand Robing Room Freemasons Hall 60 Great Queen St London. Tuesday 3 March 2015. Doors open 6pm, talk begins 6:30pm This is an opportunity to hear a talk about the reframing of nine similarly sized paintings by JMW Turner in the Tate collection, often referred to as the Turner Squares. In the 1840s JMW Turner still experimenting with new ideas embarked on a series of paired square paintings exhibited with alternative apertures, round, square and octagonal. Mostly left unsold, those paintings that entered the National Collection probably did so unframed. This talk looks at the subsequent story of framing and reframing that finally led to the project to restore visual clarity and sense to the framing of these important pictures, displaying them together for the first time looking magnificent in the recent Late Turner Exhibition at Tate. Cost: UKP11.25 for Icon members, UKP16.55 for non-members, UKP5.95 for students. Registration is essential--please book via Eventbrite <URL:http://technology-trust-news.org/6S6-371FI-6DBM4Q-1HA4MP-1/c.aspx> and bring your ticket with you the event.
