Subject: A death
We are sad to report the sudden death of Anna Marcone, senior paintings conservator at the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione e il Restauro (ex-ICR) in Rome. <URL:https://www.facebook.com/iccrom/posts/10152658587518365> <URL:http://www.icr.beniculturali.it/pagina.cfm?usz=1&uid=182&idnew=208> A worthy heir of the great Italian critic and art historian Giovanni Urbani, under whom she trained at the ICR, at that Institution she was famed equally for her acerbic wit and her infinite patience with students, inspiring and being revered by generations of graduates from the ISCR. She was in her element working on such masters as Caravaggio, Titian, Giotto, Mantegna and "the love of her life" Lorenzo Lotto. However it was not only as a teacher that she left her mark: with her razor sharp eye and her extraordinary intellectual rigour, coupled with seemingly endless generosity, she was also a person to whom colleagues constantly turned, to resolve a crisis, work through a problem or simply to pass an evening in warmth and cheer. She will be deeply missed by friends and colleagues all over the world and in particular by the Italian conservation community.
