English Language Master's programme in Conservation and Restoration at the University of Amsterdam >From September 2015, the Master's and Post-Master's programmes in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the University of Amsterdam will be given in English, making nine specialisations in conservation-restoration available for international students. The two-year Master's course which is followed by a two-year Post-Master's programme has built-up an excellent reputation and has always had strong international ties. The programme is designed to provide a broad training covering both the humanities and the sciences. Training in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage in Amsterdam is organised in three phases. The Master's programme in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage provides an introduction to the broader field of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage providing skills that enable the graduate to effectively communicate with professionals in the field. In addition, the knowledge and skills obtained will develop the understanding and application of relevant scientific research, especially with regard to his/her chosen field of specialisation. Once the Master's diploma has been obtained, graduates have to apply for the two-year Post-Master's training phase which produces conservation-restoration professionals that are able to independently examine, analyse and treat objects, while making ethical and conscious decisions surrounding conservation treatments and preventive conservation measures. In this final phase the graduates refine both their research and treatment skills as employees of the University of Amsterdam. A Dutch-language minor course, as an optional initial phase, is offered at the University of Amsterdam for Dutch-language bachelor students wishing to apply for the Master's course.
