Subject: Workshop on identifying modern photographic process
The Fotorestauratie Atelier VOF in Amsterdam is offering the following workshop: "Identification of Modern Photograph Processes" July 6-9, 2015 Costs: 595,00 euro excluding VAT The costs include lunch and coffee breaks as well as the course reader. Although the main focus of this 4-day course is the identification of the most common modern photograph processes and finishing techniques, general preservation policy surrounding modern photograph collections will also be discussed. The processes will be covered in theory, and during practical sessions, participants will examine the Fotorestauratie Atelier's extensive study collection under magnification and using different lighting to distinguish between processes. Participants will learn about the material and technique surrounding each of the photograph processes, as well as the visual characteristics that distinguish one process from another. The differences between true silver gelatine prints and other "black and white" processes will be discussed, and participants will learn to distinguish between the various color photograph processes such as, chromogenic, dye transfer, dye diffusion, silver dye bleach photography and inkjet prints, as well as the finishing techniques associated with each of these. Clara von Waldthausen, the lecturer of the course has gained experience in the identification and preservation of photographs through many years working in private practice and as lecturer in Photograph Conservation at the University of Melbourne and the University of Amsterdam.
