Subject: Workshop on feather conservation
"Introduction to Feather Conservation" Bowes Museum Barnard Castle County Durham 16-17 April 2015 The Bowes Museum is hosting a two-day workshop on the conservation of feathers on 16-17 April 2015, to coincide with their stunning exhibition of feathered costume 'Birds of Paradise'. The workshop will be led by Allyson Rae who has extensive experience in the conservation of artefacts incorporating feathers. Now a freelance conservator, she was Head of Organic Artefacts Conservation at the British Museum until 2006. Encompassing both theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will cover the structure and nature of feathers, their causes of deterioration and principles and practice for non-interventive and basic interventive options (soil removal, reshaping, repair techniques). We will consider feathers in most contexts including ethnography, costume and natural history collections. Participants are encouraged to bring images of feathered objects to the workshop for discussion. The cost of the 2 day workshop is UKP240 and includes materials, hand-outs, and tea/coffee. A total of 12 places are available. Booking Deadline: 9 March 2015 Booking Forms and a draft programme are available, by email, from Allyson Rae <allysonrae<-at->btinternet<.>com> *** Conservation DistList Instance 28:34 Distributed: Tuesday, February 3, 2015 Message Id: cdl-28-34-012 ***Received on Monday, 26 January, 2015
