This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the overall
management of the international conservation programmes for the
British Museum's busy Conservation and Scientific Research (CSR)
department.  You will provide advice and support to the department
on international conservation and resource matters, as well as
overseeing the department's involvement in the Zayed National Museum
(ZNM) project and contributing to the Museum's international
reputation.

Key areas of responsibility:

    To ensure a good flow of information between project/curatorial
    teams and the Conservation and Scientific Research department

    To steer the CSR team in building and maintaining capacity for
    international projects

    To co-ordinate and participate in surveys and conservation of
    objects for loans to the ZNM, and in the conservation assessment
    of objects for acquisition by the ZNM

    To ensure that objects are conserved for the projects and that
    expert advice is provided on locally suitable environmental
    requirements, conservation, shipment, mounting and installation

    To contribute to the business planning for a conservation
    function at the ZNM, and provide advice and direction on
    facilities for collection conservation and storage

    To provide advice on conservation-related training as well as
    co-ordinate the training workshops and develop supporting
    materials

Person Specification: The ideal candidate will have a recognised
professional conservation qualification to degree level or
equivalent, as well proven practical conservation experience.  You
will have a good track record of relevant conservation research and
a well-established history of conservation outreach work in a museum
or heritage sector environment.  The ability to use Windows
programmes and a computerised conservation record system is
essential.  Finally, you will have excellent negotiation and
leadership skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range
of people.
