The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation invites applicants for the
position of Senior Historic Interiors Technician.  Duties include
regular, routine cleaning of collections and surrounding areas
according to established conservation standards, e.g., dusting,
vacuuming, etc.; Maintaining records of work performed via
checklists at each site, Inspecting collections including
reproduction objects in assigned areas; Monitoring environmental
conditions and maintaining permanent data records for environmental
conditions in storage and display areas; Preparing reports;
Demonstrating proper collections care techniques to other members of
the HICC team; providing guidance to HICC staff in the absence of
the manager.

Requirements: Demonstrated interest in historic artifacts and
sensitivity to the significance and special needs of museum
collections.  Proficiency in the use of a computer, including basic
word processing and data management software.  Demonstrated manual
dexterity.  Ability to use hand tools and power equipment necessary
for collections care in a museum setting.  Ability to communicate
effectively and follow instructions, orally and in writing.  Valid
Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving
record measured against Colonial Williamsburg criteria.  Ability to
make the best use of time and limited resources, use facilities,
materials, equipment, buildings and objects effectively, efficiently
and with reasonable and appropriate care.  Ability to (1) act as a
mentor or leader in the absence of the manager, (2) work outdoors in
varying weather conditions and come in daily contact with pollen,
dust and mold, (3) carry up to 40 pounds up and down stairs and
perform duties while bending, and (4) perform various functions such
as standing, walking, lifting, climbing, seeing and working in
varying light conditions and close quarters, and participating in
strenuous activities.  Above skills generally gained through
completion of a high school diploma or G.E.D., plus four years
experience in housekeeping/museum collections experience; or
bachelor's degree in fine arts, art history, or museum studies, plus
two years of museum collections experience.

Highly desirable:  Bachelor's degree in a pre-conservation program
and/or previous conservation experience.  Basic understanding of the
fundamental concepts and practices of preventive conservation.
Skills in metalworking, woodworking, or other media.
