Workshop "Laser Cleaning of Surfaces: Artifacts and Architecture" AIC Annual Meeting Miami May 12-13, 2015 9 am - 5 pm $300 for the full 2-day workshop $159 for May 12 only. The May 13, 2015 hands-on sessions are only open to those signing up for the full two-day program. Prices include lunch Instructors: Meg Abraham, John Asmus, Martin Cooper, Matt Cushman, Andrezj Dajanowski, Bartosz Dajanowski, Adele deCruz, Pamela Hatchfield, Holly Salmon, Marlene Yandrisevits <URL:http://www.conservation-us.org/annual-meeting/workshop> This 2-day pre-session combines lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on practice. It is intended for a range of practitioners from specialties spanning architecture, objects, and paintings, from those with little or no experience to expert laser users. On Tuesday, May 12, 2015 participants will learn about the various types of lasers available, safety, and how lasers have been used in the treatment of cultural property. Protocols for determining safe working parameters for different materials will be discussed, along with some of the most important current research on damage parameters. Several lasers will be available for demonstrations. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015 participants will divide into smaller groups for practical, hands-on demonstrations and experience. A field trip will also be offered for those interested in cleaning of exterior architectural surfaces.
