Clothworkers' Foundation Internship in Conservation Science Conservation and Scientific Research The British Museum Full time Fixed Term 12 months C2C Application Deadline: 2 February 2015 This internship offers an exciting opportunity for a graduate or researching a scientific discipline who wishes to develop a career in conservation science in the cultural heritage sector and/or has an interest or experience in the technology and conservation of museum objects. The internship will focus on aspects of the problem of internal pollutants within the museum environment; however, the intern will also gain an understanding of all aspects of the department's work. Key areas of responsibility: To design and carry out conservation science-based research projects, working with other scientists, conservators and museum colleagues To select, acquire skills in, and apply, a range of analytical, monitoring and testing methods as required to conduct these projects To participate in the wider activities of the department, including contributing to the Museum's public programme, in order to fully understand the role of a museum scientist Person Specification: The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline, a high level of IT literacy and previous experience working in a laboratory or research environment. Experience in undertaking research, specifically in the analysis of indoor pollutants, organic or polymeric materials or in the investigation of deterioration mechanisms would be advantageous. The applicant should be highly motivated and enthusiastic with good interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, and must be able to work well as part of a team.
