part of a truly unique project, to work with our talented team in
creating a brand new studio that enhances our world class reputation
for conservation.

The Conservation Studio at Knole is part of the Heritage Lottery
Funded inspired by Knole project to conserve the house, its
interiors and collections. The Studio will offer a new approach to
conservation by combining this work with activities that engage
visitors on a daily basis as part of their experience of Knole. It
will also offer fantastic opportunities for learning and
volunteering at all levels.

Permanent, full time 37.5 hours per week

Approximately UKP37,000

The role of Conservation Studio Manager at Knole is the opportunity
to combine conservation and business management skills with a new
approach to visitor engagement and volunteering.

In collaboration with Knole's project and property staff and
specialist advisers, you will design and deliver a programme of
studio conservation work and engagement activities through treating
paintings, frames, plain and gilt furniture, and upholstery from
Knole's collection. You will recruit and manage a team of staff and
freelance conservators, volunteers and interns to do this work in a
new and beautiful studio created in one of Knole's historic
buildings. Your experience will also help us design the fit out.

You will act as the curator for the visitor experience in the
Studio, using your planning and engagement skills to ensure that the
conservation work is done in ways that enthrall all visitors. We've
taken into account the impact of these activities on the time and
budget needed to treat the collections. This is your opportunity to
innovate in designing a new way of conserving collections.

About you: You'll be an accredited conservator proficient in at
least one area of the studio's conservation activities who is also

a business for yourself or for others already, or you might be
looking for an opportunity to do this as your next step in
developing your career. Your experience of management and of
equipping and running a conservation studio show your commercial
acumen and organisational skills. You are able to design and
deliver work programmes to time and budget, managing staff, students
and volunteers to do so.

You will be interested and experienced in engaging visitors through
conservation, up for the challenge of using and adapting current
visitor experience techniques and new research in imaginative ways.
You will be a team player, able to use a collaborative approach to
build relationships with property, project and advisory staff who
will support you in achieving your goals. You will be flexible and
able to think on your feet, adapting as Knole reveals its secrets
and surprises as the project progresses.
