Contract Conservator Position Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (CHSDM) has a requirement for the services of a contract conservator to provide conservation support for the mass digitization of the nearly 37,000 Product Design and Decorative Arts (PDDA) collection objects. Conservation activities will include designation of objects requiring special consideration or not suitable for mass digitization; handling of fragile objects for mass digitization image capture; advising contracted art handlers on appropriate handling and movement of objects to digitization stations; advising on the physical support of objects during digitization; conducting conservation treatments as required for stabilization of objects. The period of performance is anticipated to be 7 months from the date of award. The contract may be extended at the end of this period.
