19th Century Artists' Wax

The Scientific Research Department of the National Gallery of Art is
interested in locating samples of authentic, documented 19th century
commercial waxes of any sort that artists might have used.  Small
samples (no larger than 1 gram) would be analyzed and the results
shared with the donors.   We would also appreciate hearing about
results from anyone who has previously analyzed waxes used in art,
particularly wax sculptures. For further details, please contact
