The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research is currently
recruiting a Preventive Conservator to support the relocation of
collection materials mainly from the Africa, Oceania and Americas
Department to the new World Conservation and Exhibition Centre
(WCEC), and to ensure object safety at all times.  The post holder
will help to provide a comprehensive preventive conservation service
for the collections, in collaboration with other stakeholders, and
will promote best practices for the long term collection
preservation.

You will act as on-site preventive conservator at Orsman Road and
Blythe House and will advise on all aspects of the condition
assessment, handling, packing, freezing, transport and storage of
the wide range of objects that are involved in the WCEC collection
move.  You will ensure that the most appropriate environmental
conditions, materials, approaches and technologies are adopted, You
will also help to maintain the environmental systems and collate
data to ensure agreed conditions are maintained and help deliver the
integrated pest management (IPM) strategy.

The successful candidate will have a recognised professional
qualification in conservation or science with practical experience
in museum or heritage collections care or preventive conservation.
You will have an understanding of mechanisms involved in materials
deterioration in the museum environment.  You will ideally have
practical conservation experience; experience of maintaining
radiotelemetric environmental monitoring systems; knowledge of and
experience with climate control; training in integrated pest
management and pest treatment options; training in materials testing
and experience with pollution monitoring and mitigation.
