The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking a Conservator of
Textiles to provide specialist expertise for the care and
conservation of textiles in the NGV's Collection.

The NGV is the oldest and one of the finest public art museums in
Australia. Established in 1861, the NGV has two buildings displaying
the NGV Collection - NGV International on St Kilda Road and The Ian
Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square.

About the position: You will undertake routine and complex
conservation treatments of a wide range of textile items in the NGV,
according to the highest technical and ethical standards with
treatments ranging from minor repairs to lengthy and complex
processes. Carry out technical examinations, write condition reports
and devise treatment proposals for fashion and textile items.

Provide authoritative advice to NGV staff regarding the
preservation, storage and handling methods of manufacture and
construction of fashion and textile items. This includes discussing
proposals and the progress during treatments with the Senior
Conservator of Textiles, curators and other conservators. Contribute
to the preventative conservation of fashion and textiles in the NGV
Collection.

To be successful you will have a tertiary degree in conservation
specialising in the treatment of textiles as well as extensive and
wide ranging experience in the complex treatment of unique and
irreplaceable textiles. You will have sound knowledge of the
structure, history, technology, deterioration and treatment of
textiles including recent research and publications in these areas
and sound project management skills with the ability to manage
multiple tasks and deadlines.
