Project Conservator The Henry Ford The Henry Ford seeks qualified applicants for a 2 year IMLS grant funded position to conserve, re-house, and relocate 1,000 historical artifacts including photographic, data processing (computers), printing, and telecommunications equipment as well as sound communication (phonographs) and visual communication (televisions, kinetoscopes) currently located in a large on-site Collections Storage Building. The project will include storage upgrades, digital imaging and the overall care of the assigned collections. This conservation portion of the project represents an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to engage with a very wide range of 20th century materials that include many modern materials, including metals and plastics. It is an ideal project for candidates with experience and interest in industrial design and challenging unique collections care issues. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of artifact conservation activities including treatments, handling, re-housing and documentation. Reporting to the assigned Senior Conservator, the Project Conservator will also provide training and supervision for project specialists, technicians, volunteers as assigned. This is a full time position with benefits. Preferred: M.A. in Art conservation or equivalent experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Excellent eye-hand coordination. Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must be in good physical condition in order to stoop, bend, climb ladders, lift and carry moderate (up to twenty pounds) and occasionally heavy (up to 40 pounds) loads.
