Flash Survey: Estimating Museum Storage Space

According to an ICCROM-UNESCO survey (2011), 60% of museums do not
have sufficient space to store their collection, and 25% of storage
areas are so full that it is either difficult or impossible to
circulate within them. CCI workshops on Storage Reorganization have
shown that small- to medium-sized museums struggle with estimating
storage space.

This flash survey is being conducted as part of a paper that will be
submitted to the ICOM-CC triennial conference. The paper will review
and test different published storage space estimation methods to
develop guidance aimed at smaller institutions with limited
resources or access to outside expertise.
