Balboa Art Conservation Center (BACC)

The Balboa Art Conservation Center (BACC), an active regional
conservation center located in San Diego, California seeks a Field
Service Officer for its Western Region Field Service Program
(WRFSP).

The Field Service Officer is part of a staff of eleven and reports
to the Director. The Officer is responsible for program
implementation and in consultation with the Director, design of
program components. The Officer works with the Field Service
Assistant and other Center staff and is involved with all program
aspects. Responsibilities range from teaching workshops and making
presentations at regional professional association meetings to
answering technical inquiries, and scheduling and promoting events.
Duties include coordinating services and may involve participating
in consultations and surveys of various types. The Field Service
Officer is also responsible for reports in support of services
rendered, and tracking and documenting program activities. In
consultation with the Director and working with the Field Service
Assistant, the Officer designs and implements marketing efforts via
print, email, website, and social media. The Field Service Office
continually strives to build new communication channels and
relationships with its constituents; the successful candidate will
be able to think creatively about interesting and effective ways to
engage museum staff and to meet their needs.

About BACC and the Western Region Field Service Program BACC is a
private, nonprofit corporation devoted to the preservation of
material culture in the areas of art and history. The Center is
located in San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park the nation's largest
urban cultural park and home to 15 museums, as well as performing
arts venues, gardens, and the San Diego Zoo.  Serving both
institutions and private clients with conservation services that
range from conservation treatment and technical analysis to
education and emergency response and recovery, BACC has been home to
the WRFSP since 2001. Through this Program, BACC supports
preservation efforts at collections-based institutions throughout
the four-state western region of Arizona, California, Oregon, and
Washington. Launched with major support from the National Endowment
for the Humanities, the program provides workshops on basic
preservation theory and practice; on-site preservation planning
surveys; consultations on specific preservation issues; and
reference and technical inquiry response.

Qualifications The Field Service Officer is a full-time position and
requires a graduate degree from a recognized conservation training,
museum studies, or library sciences program. Preference will be
given to applicants with a minimum of 5 years of applicable
experience in museums and collections care as well as teaching
experience. Either face-to-face or internet-based instruction
experience will meet minimum requirements.

General qualifications are:

    A broad knowledge of and experience in collections conservation
    and preservation for museums, archives, and/or libraries.

    Demonstrated, excellent communication ability, both oral and
    written. Ability to work well and collaborate with others.

    Excellent writing skills and ability to write, edit, and format
    reports of a technical nature to organization specifications.

    The ability to perform tasks in an organized manner with
    appropriate prioritization and accuracy as well as attention to
    detail.

    Skills in self-direction and flexibility in work routines to
    accommodate fluctuating workflows.

    Experience with museum registration methods.

    Working knowledge of Microsoft business software including word
    processing, spreadsheets, databases, and electronic mail client
    software.

    Some familiarity with marketing methods.
