Tapestry Conservator (Team Leader) County Council and Doddington Hall Conservation Charity Heritage Skills Centre Lincoln, UK Location: Heritage Skills Centre, Lincoln Castle, Castle Hill, Lincoln, LN1 3AA Full Time Position 2 year fixed term Salary: UKP23,000 UKP27,000 per annum depending on qualifications and experience, with a probation period of 3 months Closing Date: Monday 28 October, 2013 Job Description: As part of the 'Hands on Tapestries' project run by joint partners Lincolnshire County Council and the Doddington Hall Conservation Charity, an exciting opportunity has arisen to conserve two sets of 17th century Flemish tapestry. Cut to fit and nailed to the walls in 1762 by owner John Delaval, neither set have been touched since their installation. The post holder will undertake full conservation treatment of the tapestries, following agreed conservation practice as outlined by the Conservation Consultant. As the Team Leader you will oversee the day to day running of the project, you will also be responsible for the supervision of a further two Assistant Tapestry Conservators. Required Skills: Applicants should hold a professional qualification in conservation, with a minimum of five years experience in textile conservation, with at least two years practical tapestry conservation experience. You will have a high level of understanding of best practice conservation techniques and a proven track record in leading conservation projects. All applicants must have excellent written and communication skills, experience of managing and motivating a team is essential. Accountable to Conservation Consultant Key Result Areas Undertake full conservation treatment of two sets of 17th century Flemish Tapestry, following agreed conservation practice as outlined by the Conservation Consultant Be responsible for the project on a day to day basis, leading the team and ensuring that conservation is of a consistently high standard. Progress within an agreed timetable, filling in timesheets as directed by the Conservation Consultant Be responsible for the preparation of materials, monitor stocks of materials and ensure that orders are placed as appropriate Ensure that the tapestries are appropriately handled and stored, following health and safety procedures Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others Assist with the removal and rehang of tapestries at Doddington Hall, as directed by the Conservation Consultant Ensure that a written and photographic record of conservation work is kept Keep up to date with developments in the field, ensuring professional development Provide appropriate information to visitors and interested parties, contributing to interpretation as required. Assist the Conservation Consultant in preparing a quarterly update for the trustees of the Doddington Hall Conservation Charity To promote the work of the Heritage Skills Centre Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Knowledge: To have completed a recognised textile conservation course or general conservation course. Skills: Excellent needlework skills. Experience of managing and motivating a team is essential. Good organisational, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
