ICON Archaeology Group are pleased to announce an autumn visit to Portsmouth Monday 21 October 10 am - 5 pm (approximately) Join the Archaeology Group for their autumn visit, which will give you the opportunity to hear about two major exhibitions. This event will not only be a journey through time but will also cover pretty much everything from dry chalk plaques to wet wood. Stonehenge--arguably England's most famous tourist attraction--will have a new Visitor Centre opening to the public in December 2013. Come along to find out about years of planning that have gone into the project, how objects were selected, assessed and conserved for display and have a sneaky preview at some artefacts, when you go and visit the mount makers workshop. The afternoon will be spent at the brand new Mary Rose Museum. There will be talks on the museum building, conserving artefacts for display and drying of the ship timbers, before you go and look around the new galleries. The event is open to everyone and will include: A visit to English Heritage facilities in Fort Cumberland where you will be able to see the labs, x-ray facilities and the mount maker's workshop Talks on Stonehenge Visitor Centre Lunch A visit to the New Mary Rose Museum and galleries Talks on the Mary Rose Museum and conservation at the Historic Dockyard site The price: UKP25 per person for a full day UKP15 per person for half the day (excluding lunch) UKP20 for students (including lunch) Important: The number of participants is restricted to 35 people due to meeting rooms' capacity.
