Conservation Framer Philadelphia Museum of Art Reporting to and working primarily in collaboration with Museum paintings conservators, the Conservation Framer is responsible for the care, repair, handling, fitting, alteration, and fabrication of picture frames in the Museum, which encompass a wide range of styles and periods. Typical duties of the position include: Framing, unframing, fitting, and securing paintings and other works in frames in accordance with the Museum's standards for handling works of art and their safety in display, transport, and storage Maintaining collection frames, fabricating new frames and frame components; installing auxiliary elements such as slips, buildups, backing boards, acrylic and glass glazing Repairing frames (including casting and carving to replace missing parts, gilding, finishing) according to Museum conservation standards Writing routine reports and correspondence Documentation photography Maintaining written and photographic records within data management systems Maintaining supplies, tools, equipment, and orderly frame work and storage spaces Managing work flow to meet schedules and deadlines Instruction and supervision of technicians as needed Qualifications: Five or more years of directly relevant experience, preferably in a museum setting Ability to work in an organized and efficient manner in managing priorities and meeting deadlines while adhering to the Conservation Department's standards for care and attention to detail in carrying out tasks Strong woodworking skills, full competence with hand and power tools Knowledge of frame history, styles, and construction Fluency in English language and ability to write clearly Ability to read and comply with documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively Ability to speak effectively about work topics before groups a plus Apply via the Philadelphia Museum of Art website <URL:http://www.philamuseum.org/jobs/> To apply, create a single document that contains a cover letter stating interests and qualifications, and a resume.
