Splitting Hairs! An Introductory one day workshop to the identification of hair and fibre A one day workshop on the identification of hair will be organised by the Horniman Museum, London, UK on 18 October 2013 and will be led by Kerri Allen, forensic scientist. Kerri has extensive experience in the identification of domestic and human hair. Now a consultant with Forensic Context Ltd, Kerri has been a forensic scientist for almost 25 years working for the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police and the Forensic Science Service. Encompassing both theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will cover the structure and nature of hair and its identifying features and include domestic and EU wild animals. Practical work will cover how to sample and mount hairs, and microscope identification of test samples. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and challenges. The workshop will benefit those caring for all types of objects. The cost of the 1 day workshop is UKP210 and includes materials, hand-outs and refreshments (excluding lunch).
