"Digitising Archives" Stationers' Hall Ave Maria Lane London EC4M 7DD Monday 21 October 2013 6.30 pm - 9.30 pm An event organised by the Digital Media Group of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers Come to Stationers' Hall and hear about the exciting project to digitise the Stationers' Company's priceless registers of books and also about other digitisation projects undertaken by Oxford University and the National Archives. The programme and speakers will be as follows: Digitising the registers of the Stationers' Company Dr. Giles Bergel Tutorial Fellow, Merton College, University of Oxford Conservation and preparation for scanning archives Catt Baum Conservation Manager, the National Archives Case Study (1) First World War Poetry Digital Archive Dr. Stuart Lee Reader in E-Learning and Digital Libraries, Merton College, University of Oxford Case Study (2) Ships Log Books for Old Weather Project and Case Study (3) Jubilee Tributes to Queen Victoria Caroline Kimbell Head of Licensing, the National Archives Digitising archives can create a huge technical challenge but a successful project brings to life ancient documents and records which may otherwise be locked away unseen. The Company's registers of books deposited between 1554 and 1842 represent such a challenge but with careful preparation a successful result will be achieved, as typified by the fascinating illustrated case studies to be given by our expert team of speakers.
