Conservation Technician for Birch Bark Manuscript Johns Hopkins University 12 week fixed term position The Sheridan Libraries and Museums has a temporary position for a book or paper conservation technician to provide conservation support in the treatment of a Kashmiri manuscript written on birch bark. The conservation technician will work alongside the paper conservator to implement the conservation protocols which have been established for the artifact. Primary duties include surface cleaning, uncurling edges, repairing splits and delaminations, aesthetic compensation, assisting in designing permanent housing and written and photographic documentation. Requirements: Applicants must possess a Masters degree in book and/or paper conservation from a recognized program or the equivalent training. One year experience working in a conservation lab. Demonstrated precision hand-skills A letter of application expressing interest in this opportunity. A portfolio including samples of treatment reports and photographic documentation.
