This course will provide those working in conservation and
collections care with an understanding of how project management
techniques and principles can be applied to improve project
performance and delivery.

The programme assumes a basic understanding of project management
terminology and practices. Each area of project management covered
by the course will include case studies related to conservation and
collection care.

    Introduction            Objectives; Fundamentals of Project
                            Management (recap)

    Scheduling              Formal and informal methods; Scheduling
                            challenges; Tools and software

    Managing Resources      Identifying and mobilising resources:
                            people, materials, money, information;
                            Making best use of resources
                            (allocating, scheduling and levelling);
                            use of external resources (procurement)

    Management of Change    Change control; evaluation of change
                            proposals; implementation of approved
                            changes

    Management of Risk      Exploring and evaluating risk; Risk
                            Management Plans; Contingency and Risk
                            Allowance

    Communications          Reporting; Communication plans, project
                            plan/handbook; stakeholder register
                            (authorise; consult; responsible etc.),
                            meeting schedules and plans; Chairing
                            project meetings

    Project Teams           Team behaviour and development;
                            Interpersonal communication; Delegation
                            and team management; Motivation

    Project Variables       Effect of project scale. Principles
                            versus practice etc. What would change
                            for large project versus small (ref
                            project plan)?

    Project Clinic          Issues faced by delegates in real-world
                            projects

                            Participants will be asked to submit a
                            brief summary of a project with which
                            they have been involved, illustrating a
                            particular challenge which they would
                            like to explore and discuss during the
                            course.
