Society of Gilders 2013 Conference New Orleans October 21-25, 2013, The Society of Gilders in cooperation with the Louisiana State Museum announce Gilding in New Orleans 2013, a conference focusing on traditional gilding skills and techniques. The conference, held in New Orleans October 21-25, 2013, features intensive hands-on courses, lectures, discussions, social events and volunteer opportunities. Courses offered are full day 9:00 - 5:00 Water Gilding with Peter Miller 3 days, Monday - Wednesday Oct. 21-23, 2013 Book Edge Gilding with Samuel Feinstein 2 days, Monday - Tuesday Oct. 21-22, 2013 Verre Eglomise' gilding and reverse painting on glass with Miriam Ellner 3 days, Monday - Wednesday Oct. 21-23, 2013 Panel and Furniture Gilding with Sarah Pringle 3 days, Tuesday - Thursday Oct. 22-24, 2013 Restoration of Antique Frames with Michael Gilbert 2 days, Thursday - Friday Oct. 24-25, 2013 Medieval Manuscript Illumination with Lesley Doyel 3 days Tuesday - Thursday Oct. 22-24, 2013 Oil Gilding with Micki Cavanah 2 days, Thursday - Friday Oct. 24-25, 2013 Toning of the Gilded Surface with Smith Coleman 2 days, Thursday - Friday Oct. 24-25, 2013 Gilding on a Glass Transom Panel with Brendon Brandon 1 day Friday Oct. 25, 2013 Ongoing throughout the week: Attendees and volunteers are welcome to participate in the final work sessions of the Society of Gilders' five-year Community Projects to restore the gilding at the historic St. Alphonsus Church and assist with frame restoration and conservation at the Louisiana State Museum. Participation is free and open to all. A Society of Gilders members exhibition in conjunction with The Louisiana State Museum at The Cabildo on Historic Jackson Square.
