The State Library of NSW welcomes applications from Indigenous

The Conservator's main functions are: to perform practical
conservation to ensure that the State Library's collection is in
good condition and accessible to clients; to undertake projects,
either as project team participant, leader or activity co-ordinator;
to conduct workshops, seminars and tours; and to produce project
reports and maintain hard copy and electronic records. The
Conservator undertakes projects to ensure agreed outcomes for the
Collection Preservation and Storage Branch, in line with the
Library's strategic plan.

The Collection Preservation and Storage Branch is part of the
Library Services Division which is responsible for all aspects of
the development, management and preservation of the State Library
collections. The Division also facilitates service delivery for, and
access to, the collections. Collection Preservation and Storage
develops and implements preservation policies and treatments for all
material formats in the Library's collections. The Branch undertakes
individual treatments and preparation of items for internal and
external exhibitions; as well as collection conservation,
maintaining client access to collections through their maintenance.
The Branch also contributes to the management of collection storage,
both onsite and offsite, particularly in relation to issues that
arise from collection growth.

Selection Criteria:

    Tertiary qualifications in materials conservation; or an
    appropriate qualification in a related field, together with two
    years' relevant conservation experience working under the
    supervision of an experienced, qualified conservator; or a
    minimum of five years' conservation experience working under the
    supervision of an experienced, qualified conservator.

    Demonstrated experience in materials conservation, conservation
    techniques, related scientific processes and the application of
    conservation ethics, as accepted by the Australian Institute for
    the Conservation of Cultural Materials.

    Well developed problem solving and organisation skills,
    including the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and plan and
    coordinate projects.

    Well developed interpersonal, oral and written communication
    skills.

    Ability to work effectively either independently or as a member
    of a team.

    Demonstrated client service focus with a successful record in
    meeting client and business needs.

    Well developed knowledge of the practical application of work
    health and safety standards and safe work practices.

    Experience in preparing for and presenting workshops on
    conservation related information.
