Subject: Journal of the Institute of Conservation
Articles for the Journal of the Institute of Conservation are now published online at <URL:http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/rcon> before they appear in the printed issue of the Journal, and can therefore be published much sooner than before. Articles first appear online after they have been peer reviewed, edited and accepted for publication. These articles (known as Accepted Manuscript or Accepted Author Version) appear in the Latest articles section under the Accepted Author Version part of the webpage, with a DOI number given to them (see for example 'The importance of understanding terminology of collagen and gelatine in the study of parchment', by Dr Lee Gonzalez and Professor Tim Wess). Once the Accepted Manuscript articles have been typeset and proofs of the typesetting agreed, they appear in the Latest articles section again, but this time in a format as they will appear in the printed version of the Journal (as the Version of Record--see for example 'Blue flag with yellow tiger? Flags, authenticity and identity', by Frances Lennard, Nancy Pollak, Chunmei Lin and Wan-Ping Chen). Once an issue of the Journal is ready for printing, all relevant articles will be assigned to that issue, and will appear in the Current issue section as well as in the printed version. This move to online publication means that submissions of excellent quality can now be peer reviewed, edited, accepted and published online as the Accepted Manuscript in as little as a few months. All current and future submissions to the Journal will appear online in these different formats as well as in the printed issues. Access to all of these articles, and back issues of The Conservator and The Paper Conservator will soon be available to Icon members for free.
