Preventive Conservation Technician
Exhibition and Collections Management Department
Miami Art Museum (MAM)

Reports to: Senior Registrar

Summary Description:  The Preventative Conservation Technician will
assist the Registration staff in a variety of duties related to the
preservation and restoration of works of art. The nature of this
highly skilled work requires manual dexterity, intense
concentration, and aesthetic sensibility in addition to excellent
organizational skills and meticulous work habits. The technician
must be highly motivated, collaborative, and possess excellent
research and art handling skills.

Responsibilities:

    Performing object condition surveys, examining and documenting
    objects with photos and written descriptions. Accession and
    catalog the museum's material culture collection in

    anticipation of new exhibitions, and assist in the installation
    of such exhibitions: accessioning, object marking, photography,
    cataloging, framing, condition reporting, and re-housing.
    Performing research and analysis to develop conservation
    procedures and assist in conservation treatment including
    organizing treatment schedules.

    Data entry in database and filing related to projects

    Checks, calibrates, and changes charts of hygrothermographs.

    Assist in the day to day tasks of the registrar's office as
    needed.

Qualifications:

    Minimum 4 year degree in art related field, conservation
    concentration preferred.

    Previous experience in conservation, data entry, and reporting.

    Experience working with various collection management databases
    and Adobe Photoshop.

Physical Requirements:

    Walk, bend, lift (up to 25 pounds) including files, office
    supplies and electronic equipment.

    Finger dexterity to pick up paper and use computer keyboard.

    Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing
    and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer
    terminal; extensive reading.

    Ability to hear in normal tones including telephone and
    face-to-face conversation.
