Workshop Introduction to Feather Conservation Horniman Museum, London 21-22 October 2013 A two day workshop on the conservation of feathers will be hosted by the Horniman Museum, London, on 21-22 October 2013 and will be led by Allyson Rae who has extensive experience in the conservation of artefacts incorporating feathers. Now a freelance conservator, she was Head of Organic Artefacts Conservation at the British Museum until 2006. Encompassing both theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop will cover the structure and nature of feathers, their causes of deterioration and principles and practice for non interventive and basic interventive options for their care (soil removal, reshaping, repair techniques). Participants are encouraged share their experiences and challenges. The workshop will benefit those caring for objects and textiles incorporating feathers and natural history collections. The cost of the 2 day workshop is UKP200 and includes materials, hand outs and refreshments (excluding lunches). A total of 10 places are available.
