    Conservation
The Cleveland Museum of Art

The conservation department of the Cleveland Museum of Art seeks
applicants for an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship for Advanced Training
in Textile Conservation. This appointment begins no earlier than
October 2013 and may be extended for up to an additional two years.

The Mellon Fellow will take part in all aspects of installation and
preventative care and preservation activities concerning the
Cleveland Museum of Art's encyclopedic textile collection. The
Fellow will have the opportunity for in-depth examination and
treatment of textiles, research related to the collection, and to
participate in a wide range of conservation activities with
conservators, collections care specialists and curators. The
significant resources of the Cleveland Museum of Art, including the
library and archives, and nearby Case Western Reserve University,
contribute to the fellowship program. Fellows are encouraged to
carry out a research project culminating in a publishable paper.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is renowned for the quality and breadth
of its collection, which includes almost 45,000 objects and spans
6,000 years of achievement in the arts. The textile collection,
mirroring the collection as a whole in its encyclopedic nature,
numbers some 4,500 objects; collection strengths include Central
Asian, Coptic, and Islamic textiles, as well as contemporary fiber
art. Currently undergoing a multi-phase renovation and expansion
project across its campus, the museum is a significant international
forum for exhibitions, scholarship, performing arts and art
education. One of the top comprehensive art museums in the nation
and free of charge to all, the Cleveland Museum of Art is located in
the University Circle neighborhood. The Museum's conservation
department employs 13 full-time staff members, including
conservators in paper, Asian paintings, textiles, paintings, and
objects, as well as technicians, a chief conservator, and a
departmental assistant. At any given time, the department also hosts
numerous pre-program conservation interns, third-year interns,
