Senior Conservator, Prints and Drawings The Art Institute of Chicago The Art Institute of Chicago seeks a senior conservator of prints and drawings to lead and oversee the activities of a dynamic laboratory. The incumbent will manage the laboratory, engage in research, and will undertake conservation treatments for the Art Institute's rich and diverse collections of art on paper. The Conservator will work with all curatorial departments to provide support for ambitious exhibitions, acquisitions and loan programs. S/he will supervise four conservators, fellows and interns and will report to the Chair of the Department of Prints and Drawings. S/he will oversee departmental budgets and participate in grant writing in support of conservation initiatives. The successful applicant will be a highly experienced conservator with proven supervisory experience and with experience in the care of a major collection. S/he will have experience in undertaking complex conservation procedures and will have strong management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, the Conservator will implement and support research, analysis and technical studies. Requirements include: A Master's degree in conservation with a specialization in the conservation of works on paper and a minimum of 8 years experience working with major collections in a supervisory capacity; demonstrated computer and related technology skills; evidence of professional activity in the field. Salary is commensurate with experience.
