Assistant Professor of Conservation Science Art Conservation Department State University of New York Buffalo State Buffalo, NY This is a Fall semester 2013 sabbatical replacement Buffalo State seeks a single semester, part time temporary sabbatical replacement to teach a conservation science curriculum in the Art Conservation Department. This department is one of the few graduate programs in North America offering instruction in the theory and practice of the conservation of works of art and other cultural artifacts. A three-year curriculum leads to the award of the M.A. degree and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation. Duties include teaching of graduate level lecture and laboratory subjects in conservation science plus additional advisement of students from August 2013 through December 2013 (exact dates to be determined). We are seeking applicants who hold a Ph.D. or M.S. in a physical science, such as materials science, physics or chemistry, show evidence of a high level of commitment to and experience in teaching at the college level, display effective communication skills and possess experience working in collaboration with other conservators. Preferred qualifications include experience in: Microscopy (optical and PLM) Pyrotechnologies (glass, ceramics, or metals); Teaching at the graduate level; Postgraduate level conservation science research or research immediately relevant to conservation of art and other objects of material culture; (5.) using XRF, SEM, and XRD.
