Advanced pest training workshop on pests in museums and historic houses Glasgow University Graham Kerr Building Zoology Department Glasgow G12 8QQ 3 September 2013 Leader: David Pinniger Supported by: Jeanne Robinson Costs: UKP43.00 Aimed at: Entomologists and conservators with experience and/or an interest in museum and historic house IPM, and will be particularly useful for those who are actively involved in insect pest monitoring. Focus: New species that are threatening our collections Pest ID work--tools, recording and reference collections To create a forum for entomologists and those working regularly in IPM to meet and discuss how different skills and facilities can be better integrated to streamline services such as training, ID and control. The workshop will enable participants to: Identify the main groups and species of pest insects which are found in museums, historic houses and archives, Identify the main beetle pests and their larvae, Identify the main moth species and their larvae, Recognise other pests and casual invaders, Identify new pest species and recognise the potential risk, Understand the need for recording and analysing data as part of a wider initiative. (This workshop will introduce an emerging recording data base--"What Is Eating Your Collection".) Have awareness of some control options available in Scotland. Delegates should bring difficult pest samples to identify, relevant experiences or observations.
