The Archives Conservation Discussion Group is very excited to hold, "Is it Real? The Value and Ethics of Using Surrogates" Friday, May 31, 2013 8:30-10:00am, just after the BPG business meeting. Check the final 41st Annual AIC meeting schedule for location details. This discussion will delve into the issues, uses, and needs of surrogacy of original materials in collections. There will be seven short presentations from each panelist highlighting their professional experiences working with surrogates followed by a 45 minute Q&A session. The panelists will speak about; creating preservation protocols for a large collection of brittle materials; issues facing digital archived copies; uses and complications of surrogates for exhibitions; a curator's perspective on surrogate use; and a conservator's role in educating private collectors on surrogates. The expert panelists will surely answer any burning questions you may have about the use, need, creation, archival/ethical issues, and abuse of surrogates in your collection. ACDG encourages all specialties join us in a lively discussion. We recommend having questions prepared so you don't miss out on your chance to ask these experts their advice and opinions on surrogacy matters that relate to you and your collection.
