The Conservation of In-Situ Archaeological Mosaic Floors
Chris Cleere
Fishbourne Roman Palace
June 25-27, 2013

The Sussex School of Archaeology is pleased to announce a brand new
course and exciting opportunity to study up close, the famous
mosaics at Fishbourne Roman Palace in West Sussex. This unique
opportunity to train under renowned conservator Chris Cleere, will
include direct access to the mosaics, entry to the Palace, two days
of practical and theory workshops at Fishbourne and also visiting
the newly re-opened Roman villa at Chedworth in Gloucestershire.

The course aims to explore the development of the approach to
conservation and presentation of in-situ preserved archaeological
mosaics in the UK from the mid nineteenth century until the present.
A visit to Chedworth Roman Villa will be included in the course to
allow comparison between the 1960's shelter structure at Fishbourne
Roman Palace and the recently opened shelter structure of the
Chedworth Roman Villa West Range within the context of historical
and current archaeological site conservation and presentation
values. The course will comprise both tutorial sessions and
practical sessions that include involvement in the development and
implementation of a conservation condition survey for the mosaics at
Fishbourne Roman Palace.

The cost, which includes entry to Fishbourne Palace and Chedworth is
only UKP120.

Students can make their own travel arrangements to Chedworth or can
book a place on a first come first served basis on a mini-bus at an
additional cost of UKP10 per. person.

Course dates: June 25-27, 2013
course code: DX325613.

There will be limited spaces only, book early to avoid
