Under the direction of the Preservation Librarian and working in a
well-appointed lab with a friendly, dynamic team, the incumbent will
treat a broad range of rare books, manuscripts and photographs for
the Marriott Library's Special Collections.  The incumbent will
examine, prepare treatment proposals for, and conduct conservation
treatments for archival documents, historic photographs, and bound
material, as well as design and construct custom protective
enclosures.  The position includes collaborative management of
between one and ten conservation technicians (hourly employees and
volunteer interns), as well as service on the library's Collections
Emergency Response Team.

At the time of employment, the incumbent must be able to complete a
broad range of complex book and paper conservation treatments in a
timely fashion and manage issues related to operations of a book
conservation lab.  The incumbent must be able to work independently
as well collegially with a dynamic group of professional colleagues
within the library's newly renovated conservation facility.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in History, Art, Humanities,
Library Science, or a related field, or equivalency, plus one year
of directly related experience required.  Knowledge of conservation
and preservation principles and demonstrated ability to perform
essential functions of the job as outlined in the full position
description required.  Demonstrated effectiveness in supervision,
training, and interpersonal communication required.  Advanced degree
in a related field or a conservation certificate plus additional
years of experience preferred.

Salary: $43,000 - $45,000 per year, depending upon qualifications,
plus generous health and retirement benefits.  Applicants are
encouraged to provide a portfolio illustrating previous conservation
work and bookbinding models.  Applications will be accepted until
