Outdoor Sculpture Maintenance Technician (2 positions)
Preservation Society of Newport County

Temporary positions
July 1 - August 9, 2013

The Preservation Society of Newport County is looking for two
technicians for a six-week paid position in outdoor sculpture
preservation. Technicians will take part in the condition survey,
documentation, maintenance and treatment of the outdoor sculpture
collection on the properties of the Preservation Society. The
technicians will work under the supervision of a consulting
conservator, who will be making regular visits to the project, but
will also be expected to work independently. The work will consist
of updating a condition survey of the collection, cleaning several
outdoor sculptures at the Elms, and engaging in more in-depth
conservation treatments as circumstances allow.

Candidates should be currently completing a masters degree in a
Historic Preservation or Conservation program and have an interest
in gaining experience in hands-on conservation work. Pre-program
students with significant hands-on experience are also welcome to
apply. Some experience with condition surveys, photography and
sculpture maintenance is desirable but not required. Candidates
should be able to engage in physical activity outdoors and be able
to work on scaffolding.

The technicians will be paid $15/hr.
