Subject: Budget cutbacks at Indianapolis Museum of Art
I would like to second John Campbell's post (Conservation DistList Instance: 26:42 Wednesday, March 20, 2013) lamenting the cutbacks to staff at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It is worth mentioning that the Indianapolis Museum of Art conservators are also superb mentors for students at all levels, from pre-program to 3rd and 4th year interns. All of us have experienced how critical a good internship is to our education. The impending layoffs of staff from conservation at the IMA will therefore not only damage a highly respected department and upend the lives of yet more museum employees, it will also affect the young conservators and would-be conservators who might otherwise have trained at the museum.
