Head of Conservation Museum of Islamic Art, Doha (Qatar) The Museum of Islamic Art, Doha opened to great acclaim in December 2008. It houses one of the world's most distinguished and important collections of Islamic art ranging from Spain to Central Asia and India, dating from the 7th to the 19th centuries, and encompasses arts of all kinds. Particularly important are the collections of early Qurans and other manuscripts, inlaid metalwork, carpets and textiles. The Museum is seeking a highly experienced candidate with energy and motivation for the full-time position of Head of Conservation. The Head of Conservation manages the staff and activities of the Conservation Department, including the evaluation of the collection's needs and development of short and long-term conservation priorities in the management of the collections care program. The Head of Conservation directs all administrative duties related to the operations of the department, coordinates work with annual targets and develops the Conservation Department in line with the strategic aims of the MIA The Head of Conservation serves as the Museum's chief spokesperson on conservation issues and works in close collaboration with staff across the museum particularly those in the curatorial, registration, exhibitions and galleries teams. The ideal candidate will have a significant record of conservation and management experience and a proven ability to lead, motivate and manage a team of professionals. The candidate will bring energy and vision and will be able to design effective policies and procedures for meeting the Museum's obligations with regard to the care and preservation of its collections. The Conservation Department is part of the MIA Collections Division, which also includes the Curatorial, Exhibitions, Registration, and Galleries Departments. The Collections Division is managed by the Deputy Director Collections, who reports directly to the Director of the Museum. The post is full-time, based in Doha, and attracts a competitive salary and benefits package.
