"Conservation of mural paintings and sculpture in the Himalayan region" Leh, Ladakh September 2-6, 2013 A joint conference of ICOM-CC Tibet Heritage Fund Central Asian Museum Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation In Situ Preservation e-conservation magazine A five day conference will be held in September 2013. The theme of the conference is the conservation of mural paintings and sculpture in the Himalayan region. Several projects have been conducted in this region by many International and local agencies and conservators. Each has developed a methodology aware of other approaches but often relying on adapted technologies and locally available resources. The people of the region have been involved in several of these projects to varying degrees with measurable residual skills development in many cases. The main focus of this conference will be the discussion of the various methods currently employed and the degree to which knowledge transfer and local engagement has been successfully implemented. Abstract deadline: May 31, 2013 Draft manuscript by: $July 31, 2013 Duration: Five days of papers, workshops, discussion, and tours Fee: US$250.00 (sponsorship sought for local participation) Program: The program is structured to allow information exchange at three levels; formal papers, workshop practical exchanges, and informal discussion meetings. Each day is divided into morning intensive and afternoon relaxed interactions with local and nearby tours. Submitted abstracts will be selected for presentation based on quality and relevance, either as a paper or poster. Submit abstracts, workshop and discussion topics to the email address below. Papers will be selected from the abstracts and authors advised if a paper or poster is accepted. It is anticipated that 18 papers will be presented in the formal sessions with opportunity for others in the discussion sessions. Authors may nominate a presentation length from 10 to 30 minutes.
