Paper Conservator
East Riding of Yorkshire Archives and Local Studies Service

Salary: UKP UKP21,519, annual

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week. some evenings

Contract type: Permanent.

We are looking for a Conservator who specialises in flat items for
an exciting opportunity in a spacious well-equipped lab. The
conservator will treat a wide variety of paper and parchment
materials, including manuscripts, maps, architectural plans and
photographs. The repair of wax seals and rehousing documents are a
part of this role. He or she will participate in outreach
activities such as tours, tutorials for the public and designing an
occasional exhibit, as well as supporting our preservation program
through environmental monitoring and surveys. The training and
supervision of volunteers will be shared by working together with
the Senior Conservator. We accept treatments for income, so the
conservator will also be handling their own estimates and some
deadline work. He or she will be expected and encouraged to keep up
with new research in the field.

We prefer a paper conservator with an open attitude toward lifelong
learning, who is intrigued by new challenges, and who is hopefully
excited about map repair.
