Subject: New publication--Materiality
Materiality is a themed journal that includes essay, images, fiction and poetry, focusing on the physical and the material. Issue one was released in December 2012 with the theme of "the book". The magazine is aimed at a general audience but contains articles by and of interest to conservators. For example: " The art of spontaneous pleasure: exploring the pop-up and movable book" by Albertine Hamilton, "The age of parchment" by Libby Melzer, "Words in their hands: craft and the type-racing craze of 1886" by Carolyn Fraser "Have fibre; will travel" by Helen McPherson. There are also contributions by book artists Caren Florance, Gracia Haby and Nicholas Jones. (And you might enjoy the short story about the bookpocalypse while you're at it). Materiality can be purchased at <URL:http://www.pinknantucket-press.myshopify.com> The hard copy and digital bundle is AU $10 (plus postage); the digital only version (PDF and EPUB) is AU $3.95. DistList readers may also be interested in contributing to future issues. Materiality welcomes contributions from conservators, curators, materials scientists, photographers, hobbyists, craftspeople, authors, artists, engineers and many others. Each issue will have a different theme; the theme of the second issue is 'time'. for more information see <URL:http://www.pinknantucket.com.au> and contact the editor at chiefnantucket<-at->gmail<.>com. Full disclosure: I'm the publisher! (pinknantucket press). Also, this is a personal project and is not associated with my employer.
