Subject: Workshop on print identification
Icon Book and Paper Group Co-operative Training Register (CTR): Identifying prints: What is the process, and how is it done? 15-16 April 2013 The Institute of Conservation (Icon) Book and Paper Group are pleased to bring you details of the second course in our 2013 CTR programme. We have arranged, in conjunction with the University of Reading's renowned Department of Typography and Graphic Communication, a two day workshop on the identification of prints, lead by Martin Andrews, to be held 15-16 April 2013. The course we have developed with the Department of Typography is a comprehensive theoretical and practical overview of the various processes involved in printmaking. It includes relief and intaglio printing as well as colour and black and white planographic (lithographic) processes and alternative methods such as silk screen. The programme will focus on the identification of these processes through the study of a wide range of printed material including fine prints and ephemera. This theoretical learning will be reinforced by practical sessions using the department's replica Gutenberg printing press and the use of printing plates by participants. Each day will cover a particular aspect of printmaking and at the end of the course it is hoped that participants will be able to identify prints as being from wood cuts or wood engravings, copper and steel engravings, etchings, aquatints, mezzotints, various methods of lithography, gravure, collotype and many lesser known processes. Tea and coffee is provided and although lunch is not included there is a cafe in an adjacent building on the University campus. You are also welcome to bring a packed lunch with you. The cost of this two day course is UKP280 to members and UKP300 for non-members, to include materials. Booking is now open and you can register using the online form available at <URL:http://www.icon.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1078&Itemid=0> click on "Identifying Prints" If you would like a copy of the draft programme or have any queries please contact Victoria Stevens <victoria.stevens<-at->magd<.>ox<.>ac<.>uk> <URL:https://owa.nexus.ox.ac.uk/owa/victoria.stevens<-at->magd<.>ox<.>ac<.>uk> Victoria Stevens ACR Oxford Conservation Consortium Grove Cottage, St Cross Road Oxford OX1 3TX +44 1865 271520 *** Conservation DistList Instance 26:34 Distributed: Sunday, January 20, 2013 Message Id: cdl-26-34-008 ***Received on Monday, 14 January, 2013
