Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Archiv-, Buch- und Grafikrestauratoren
(IADA)

"Conservation of Tracing Paper"
June 24-25, 2013 - in German
June 27-28, 2013 - in English

    Lecturer: Hildegard Homburger <h.homburger_at_t online.de>

    Participants: 4-6

    First day:

        Introduction to the history of the manufacture processes and
        the expansion and shrinking behaviour of tracing paper

            Introduction to various treatment techniques: Every
            participant will get an object on which he/she will
            practice the following treatments

                Removal of tapes, water and pressure sensitive
                Mending of tears with aqueous adhesives
                Mending losses with tracing paper
                Flattening, demonstration of Hard-Soft-Sandwich

    Second day:

        Every participant will has the opportunity to practice the
        following treatments

            Dyeing of mending paper
            Mending of tears with synthetic adhesives
            Lining with Japanese paper and starch paste
            Paper pulp application
            Final discussion

    The main focus of the seminar is to gain an understanding of the
    several treatment techniques through hands-on working on
    originals and dummies.

"Identification of Prints"
October 21-22, 2013 in German
October 24-25, 2013 in English

    Participants: 5-8

    The artistic printing techniques of relief, intaglio,
    lithography, screen and digital print and their industrial
    reproduction techniques will be presented. Their different
    methods and variations will be explained in detail. Original
    prints will be examined in magnification. Looking at originals
    the distinctive characteristics will be worked out and the
    identification exercised.
