Digital Imaging Specialist Yale University Yale University is seeking a Digital Imaging Specialist in a position that may be appropriate for conservators as well as others involved in the imaging of collections. The full posting can be found by searching Yale's STARS web site and using the STARS requisition number: 19691 BR: <URL:http://www.yale.edu/hronline/careers/application/external/index.html> Position Focus: Reporting into the Director of the Yale Digital Collections Center at West Campus, the Digital Imaging Specialist will plan and perform scientific imaging of cultural artifacts. This includes works on paper, paintings, manuscripts, sculptures and natural history specimens in a highly collaborative work environment. This position will work with researchers to translate requirements to technical specifications, document and implement imaging capture, visualization and data management techniques to support the curatorial and conservation units within Yale University's museums. S/he will work with the Yale Digital Collections Center (YDC2) Imaging Lab to set-up, calibrate, maintain and support the use of a state-of-the-art imaging environment and operating practices. The lab supports but is not limited to large format scanning, photographic imaging, spectral and hyper-spectral imaging, reflectance transformation imaging and various 3D techniques. Principal Responsibilities Performs photographic documentation and scientific imaging of objects, samples or other materials relating to the care, preservation, and characterization of art, archaeological, and other museum objects. Translates requirements to technical specifications, documents, and implements imaging capture, visualization, and data management techniques. Develops new imaging protocols for cultural objects for all the museums. Determines approaches to be used in imaging/documentation and devises any modification in the method that is required. Interprets and evaluates the results to determine their scientific accuracy and ensure that all required information has been gathered. Advises managers on strategies for their cultural objects. Organizes, manages, and preserves digital files, including raw data and databases. Responsible for grant planning, implementation, and execution. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Imaging Science or a related field and four years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Required Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and experience with photographic documentation and scientific imaging of objects. Knowledge of XML, HTML and CSS. Proficient in Mac OSX, Adobe Creative Suite, Windows and Microsoft Office. Ability to write user documentation. Demonstrated initiative in problem solving and interaction with on-site clients, and analyze and propose solutions to problems. Demonstrated ability to meet a high level of production on a daily basis and work in a fast-paced, multi-project and dynamic environment. Demonstrated ability to drive project completion on time and in a detailed manner, as well as self-motivation, intelligence and strong work ethic. Excellent organizational skills: accurate and thorough, as well as communication skills: listening, writing and verbal. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience working in museum or library setting. Knowledge of conservation documentation. Training in advanced camera and spectral system operation, RTI, imaging software and data and metadata management techniques and familiarity with x-radiography.
