Subject: Mold on textiles
**** Moderator's comments: Please respond directly to the author and if of general interest post it to to the DistList as well. I am a third year student in the Conservation and Restoration course in the University of Lincoln. I am currently researching the cleaning methods of mouldy textiles for my dissertation. This study aims (1) to investigate the fungal deterioration of textiles and (2) to seek effective cleaning methods for fungal stain through the experimental work. Since I am non-specialist in textile conservation, I would like to ask several questions about the interventive treatment of fungal deteriorated textiles. What method (techniques, equipment, detergents, chemicals, any other conservation materials) do you use for cleaning mould on textiles and removing stains? Why? Are there other possible options? What are pros and cons of that treatment from your ethical point of view? If there are specific examples, I would be really grateful. Please reply to me by e-mail to rika.trombone<-at->googlemail<.>com before 28 December 2012 so that I can contact individually for more details.
